The successful integration of a new 300-pupil, a three-story 2500m² extension to the existing school.

The requirements for achieving “BREEAM Excellent” has been a key factor in the drive for efficiency using the latest renewable technologies, controls, and metering while meeting environmental and Net Zero criteria.

The project was completed ahead of the programme, within budget and with minimal disruption to the existing school operations.

Design, quality, end-user outcomes

“Education is really, really fast-paced and so the learning environment has to be as well. So now our students have access to really modern and clean learning environments that are safe, yet still warm and nurturing.

We’ve got extra computer rooms, labs, a beautiful new SEN base and the learning hub, which is now the absolute heart of the academy

End User outcomes

“This new building actually makes me really proud and very humbled because our students and their families really, really struggle, and so when I say that, North Birmingham Academy is a really special place with a real special, beautiful culture. That is fact and people feel it when they walk in.

The students absolutely love the new building – their faces when they toured it for the first time were just amazing. When you watch them walk down the path and you’ve got this amazing facility for them, they just love it.

I just feel really privileged that I get to lead this academy and give our students the absolute best possible chance at life.”

Expansion of the school’s pupil capacity from 600 to 840 required an extension and new catering facilities. With a high degree of refurbishment also required time scales where always going to be a challenge.

The school’s capacity has been increased from 600 pupils between the ages of 11 and 16 to allow provision for 840 boys. Works comprised of the construction of a new kitchen and new extension block.

These works were complimented by a series of minor works within the existing buildings (refurbished WC’s, new ramp (between ground & upper ground), first floor refurbished teaching and support space & refurbished art room). Milton Keynes Museum

The museum exhibition centre shows two major new galleries designed and fitted in order to tell the whole story of the Milton Keynes area.

One of the galleries will tell the story from pre-history through to the 1800s, the second gallery will tell the story of the new city’s creation – including special exhibits featuring some of Milton Keynes’ biggest success stories: Marshall Amplification, Red Bull Racing and The Open University.

A key requirement for the project was the need to incorporate a solar design to deliver 60,000Kwh per annum. The roof space is covered in over 260 solar panels.
